Commerce graduates usually apply for accounts executive, finance trainee, banking, back-office and analyst roles, where recruiters look for software skills (Tally, Excel), basic taxation knowledge and accuracy. This one-page B.Com fresher resume format puts exactly those things where a recruiter will see them first.

Do's and don'ts
Do
- Name the software and version you used: Tally Prime, MS Excel, and any ERP you have seen at work.
- Write internship bullets as tasks with volume ("vouchers for 5 clients"), not just "assisted in accounts".
- Keep the resume to one page and use the same format for every application.
- Prepare to explain any accounting term you list; interviewers often ask basics like journal vs ledger.
Don't
- Don't list "Tally" if you have only watched a video; a practical test is common for accounts roles.
- Don't include your full home address, date of birth or a photo unless the employer asks.
- Don't copy a generic objective such as "seeking a challenging position"; name the role.
- Don't mix CGPA and percentage formats in one line; write each exactly as your marksheet shows.
Frequently asked questions
What skills should a B.Com fresher put on a resume?
List skills that match accounts and finance job posts: bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, Tally Prime, MS Excel functions such as VLOOKUP and pivot tables, and GST and TDS basics. Add soft skills only if you can give an example. Read two or three job descriptions for your target role and use the same skill names they use, as long as they are true for you.
I have no internship. What should I write instead?
Use a Training or Practical Experience section. A Tally or GST course with practical assignments, helping in a family business with billing or stock records, or your final-year project report can all go there. Describe the actual work, such as entering vouchers or preparing a ratio analysis, so the recruiter can see what you can already do.
Should I include Class X and Class XII marks?
Yes. Many Indian employers, banks and campus recruiters set minimum percentage cut-offs for Class X, XII and graduation, so leaving them out can get your application rejected. Write the board, year and percentage for each. Once you have a few years of work experience you can shorten this to just your degree.
What is the difference between a resume, a biodata and a CV in India?
A resume is a one or two page summary of skills, education and results, used for most private-sector jobs. A biodata puts personal details such as date of birth, father's name and address first, and is still asked for by small firms, local employers and some government or contract posts. A CV is a longer, complete academic record used for research, teaching and jobs abroad.
Should a B.Com fresher add a photo to the resume?
Not for most private-sector accounts, finance or back-office jobs. A photo adds nothing to your qualifications and may be misread by applicant tracking systems. If an employer, bank recruitment notice or walk-in advertisement specifically asks for a photo or a biodata, follow that instruction and use a recent passport-size photo.
Should I send my resume in Word or PDF format?
Edit in Word, then send a PDF unless the job post or portal asks for .doc or .docx. A PDF keeps your layout identical on every phone and laptop. Both files on this page are text-based, so applicant tracking systems and portals such as Naukri can read them. Name the file clearly, for example Riya_Sample_Resume.pdf.
