Career objective for B.Com freshers: examples by role

B.Com graduates apply to a wide range of roles, from accounts assistant in a CA firm to relationship officer in a bank, process associate in a KPO or sales executive in an FMCG company. The career objective is where you tell the recruiter which of these you are actually aiming for, and why your commerce background fits it.

The examples below are grouped by the jobs B.Com freshers most often apply for in India: accounting, taxation, banking and finance, back-office operations, sales, and roles for CA, CMA, CS and ACCA students. Each one names a real skill or tool, such as Tally Prime, GST returns or Excel, because that is what makes an objective believable.

How to write it

Formula

[B.Com specialisation and year] + [a tool, certification or practical exposure such as Tally, GST filing or an internship] + [target role] + [the result you want to help with, such as accurate books or timely compliance].

  1. Name the software you know. “Tally Prime and MS Excel (pivot tables)” is stronger than “good computer knowledge”.
  2. Mention practical exposure, even if it was informal: helping in a family business, filing ITRs under a CA, or a summer internship.
  3. If you have cleared CA Intermediate, CMA Intermediate or CS Executive, put it in the objective. It is often the deciding factor.
  4. For banking and finance roles, mention NISM or similar certifications only if you have actually passed them.
  5. For sales and customer roles, mention the languages you speak; regional language skills matter in many Indian territories.

  4. To join a CA firm as an assistant and gain strong practical exposure to audit, tax and compliance.

  5. To contribute to business growth in a sales role while developing my negotiation and client-handling skills.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing “good knowledge of computers” instead of naming Tally Prime, Excel functions or the accounting software you have used.
  • Claiming certifications you have only enrolled in. Write “pursuing” if you have not passed yet.
  • Using the same objective for an accounts role and a sales role. Recruiters can tell, and both versions get weaker.
  • Mentioning a CA, CMA or CS attempt status that you would not be comfortable explaining in the interview.
  • Adding personal details, such as father's name or religion, inside the objective. They do not belong there.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good career objective for a B.Com fresher with no experience?

Mention your degree, one practical skill and the role you want. For example: “B.Com graduate with working knowledge of Tally Prime and GST returns, seeking an accounts assistant role in a CA firm.” Even without a job, you can point to an internship, a course, or help you gave in a family business. Specific beats impressive-sounding every time.

Should B.Com freshers mention CA Intermediate in the career objective?

Yes, if you have cleared one or both groups. CA Intermediate signals solid knowledge of accounting, audit and tax, and many employers hire semi-qualified candidates specifically for it. Be precise about what you have cleared. If you are still attempting the exams, mention it in the education section instead so the objective stays focused on the job.

Which jobs can I target in my B.Com career objective?

Common entry-level roles include accounts assistant or executive, GST or tax assistant, audit assistant, banking relationship or operations roles, F&A process associate at a KPO, financial analyst trainee and business development executive. Pick one role per resume version and write the objective around it, rather than listing several roles at once.

Is Tally still worth mentioning on a B.Com resume?

Yes. Tally remains widely used by small and mid-sized businesses and CA firms in India, so recruiters for accounts roles often look for it. Mention the version you know, such as Tally Prime, and what you can do in it, such as voucher entry, GST configuration or inventory. Pair it with Excel skills for a stronger profile.

Should a B.Com fresher objective be written in first person?

Either style works if you are consistent. Many Indian resumes use an implied first person that drops “I”, for example “Seeking an accounts executive role…”. Fully first-person objectives such as “I am seeking…” are also acceptable. Avoid mixing styles and avoid third person, such as “Rahul is a dedicated graduate”, which reads oddly on your own resume.
