Resume headline examples
Resume headline for freshers: examples for every degree
A resume headline is a single line, usually just below your name, that sums up who you are as a candidate. On Naukri it is also a separate profile field that appears near the top of your profile, so recruiters see it alongside your name in search results. For freshers, a good headline does the work an experience section cannot: it shows degree, key skills and target role at a glance.
The examples below are grouped by degree and by what you can lead with, such as an internship, a certification or a portfolio. Most follow a simple pattern of degree, two or three skills, and the role you want, separated by vertical bars so they stay readable.
How to write it
[Degree and year] | [two or three key skills or a proof point] | [target role].
- Keep it to one line on the resume. On Naukri you can be slightly longer, but the first few words still matter most.
- Use the same skill names recruiters search for, such as “Power BI” rather than “BI tools”.
- Lead with your strongest asset. If your internship is more impressive than your degree, start with it.
- Write it as a title, not a sentence. No “I am” and no full stop at the end.
- Update it when you learn a major new skill or finish an internship, and keep the Naukri headline in line with your resume.

Mistakes to avoid
- Writing “Fresher looking for a job”. It tells the recruiter nothing they cannot already see.
- Packing in ten skills. Two or three that match the role are easier to read and more convincing.
- Using a full sentence with “I am”. A headline is a title, not an introduction.
- Leaving the Naukri headline on its default or very old text while your resume says something else.
- Claiming “expert” or “proficient” in a skill you used once in a college assignment.
Frequently asked questions
What is a resume headline for freshers?
It is a one-line summary placed under your name that states your degree, a few key skills and the role you want, for example “B.Com Graduate | Tally Prime, GST, MS Excel | Accounts Executive Fresher”. It helps a recruiter decide in seconds whether your resume fits the opening. On Naukri, the resume headline is also a profile field shown prominently to recruiters.
What is the difference between a resume headline and a career objective?
A headline is a single title-style line built from keywords. A career objective is two or three full sentences explaining the role you want and why you fit. You can use both: the headline sits right under your name, and the objective follows it. If space is tight, a strong headline plus a good projects section can work without an objective.
How long should a fresher resume headline be?
On the resume, keep it to one line, roughly 8 to 15 words. On Naukri you have more room, but the first few words are what recruiters notice in search results, so put your degree, main skill and target role first. Very long headlines read like keyword lists and are harder to scan.
Should I write “fresher” in my resume headline?
It is fine and often helpful, because many recruiters search specifically for freshers or entry-level candidates. Combine it with something more specific, such as “Data Analyst Fresher” or “Fresher Accounts Executive”, rather than using it alone. The skill and role words do most of the work; “fresher” just confirms the level.
Can I use the same headline on my resume and my Naukri profile?
Yes, and keeping them consistent is a good idea. You can make the Naukri version slightly longer by adding one more skill or your preferred location, since recruiters search and filter there. Update both whenever you complete an internship, earn a certification or change the role you are targeting.
