Product Manager Resume Example & Format

Product manager hiring in India is concentrated in consumer internet, fintech, SaaS, e-commerce and GCCs, and many PMs arrive from engineering, consulting, analytics or an MBA programme. Because backgrounds vary so much, a PM resume has to make one thing clear early: which products you owned, for which users, and what moved because of your decisions.

Hiring managers look for outcome-led bullets (activation, conversion, retention, revenue, cost or time saved), signs of good judgement (what you chose not to build and why), and evidence that you worked well with engineering, design, data and business teams. Writing that you "gathered requirements and coordinated with stakeholders" describes almost every PM and does not help you stand out.

The sample below is for a product manager with about four years in product after two years as a software engineer and an MBA, now working on a payments app.

Experience

Product Manager, Recurring Payments

Woodgrove Pay · Mumbai

  • Own the UPI AutoPay mandate experience for a team of 8 engineers and 2 designers; redesigned the mandate setup flow, lifting completion from 54% to 68%.
  • Prioritised a failed-mandate recovery feature from support ticket analysis; it reduced related support contacts by about a third within two months.
  • Ran 20+ A/B tests with the analytics team and set up a weekly metrics review that the business head now uses for roadmap decisions.
  • Worked with risk and compliance to ship changes aligned with updated payment network guidelines ahead of the deadline, without disrupting active mandates.

Associate Product Manager

Tailspin Travel · Mumbai

  • Launched a Hindi version of the bus booking flow after user interviews in tier-2 cities; it accounted for about 12% of app bookings within 3 months.
  • Wrote PRDs and user stories for a refunds tracker that cut "where is my refund" calls by about 25%.
  • Defined funnel events with engineering and built Mixpanel dashboards that became the team's source of truth for booking drop-offs.

Software Engineer

Fabrikam Technologies Ltd. · Pune

  • Built Android features in Kotlin for a retail banking client's mobile app, including bill payments and card controls.
  • Cut app crash rate on low-end devices by fixing memory issues found through Firebase Crashlytics.
  • Volunteered to run sprint demos and gather client feedback, which led to the move toward product work.

What makes this resume work

  • Each bullet ties a product decision to a user or business metric, rather than listing PM rituals.
  • Team size and scope are stated, which tells reviewers the level of ownership.
  • Discovery is shown with real inputs (support tickets, user interviews), not just the word "research".
  • Cross-functional work with risk and compliance is included, which payment and fintech teams care about.
  • The engineering background is kept short but visible, supporting technical credibility without crowding the page.
  • Metric claims are specific where data exists and modest where attribution is uncertain.

Product Manager resume mistakes to avoid

  • Writing bullets about process ("conducted sprint planning", "coordinated with stakeholders") instead of outcomes.
  • Claiming credit for a whole company metric. Describe your feature's measured impact and how it was measured.
  • Leaving out the product context: users, platform, scale and the team you worked with.
  • Listing every framework you know (RICE, Kano, JTBD) without showing where you used one to decide something.
  • Burying the transition into product. If you moved from engineering, sales or consulting, make the bridge clear in the summary.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a product manager resume without PM experience?

Show product-like work from your current role: features you shaped, user problems you investigated, data you used to make a decision, or launches you coordinated. Add a side project, such as a small app or a detailed teardown with recommendations. Keep your real job title, and use the summary to explain the move into product. APM programmes and internal transfers are common entry routes.

What metrics should I include on a PM resume?

Use metrics your feature directly influenced: conversion or completion rates, activation, retention, engagement, support contacts, revenue or cost per transaction. Say how you measured them, such as an A/B test or a before-and-after comparison over a defined period. If you cannot share exact figures because of confidentiality, use percentages or relative changes rather than inventing precise numbers.

Is an MBA required to become a product manager in India?

No. Many PMs in India have an MBA and campus placements are a common route, but plenty move into product from engineering, design, analytics or operations without one. What matters more is evidence of product judgement, user understanding and comfort with data. If you have an MBA, list relevant electives or projects; if not, let your work show the same skills.

Should a PM resume list technical skills?

Yes, briefly. SQL, analytics tools such as Mixpanel or Amplitude, and design tools like Figma are useful to list. If you have an engineering background, mention it, since technical credibility helps with engineering teams. Avoid long programming language lists unless the role is a technical PM position, where APIs, system design or platform experience should be shown in your bullets.
