B.Tech Fresher Resume Example & Format

B.Tech freshers in India apply through campus placements, off-campus drives, hiring challenges and job portals, often competing with thousands of applicants for the same entry-level software roles. With little or no full-time experience, the resume has to prove ability through education, projects, internships and coding practice, in that order of what you can show best.

Recruiters screening fresher resumes usually check CGPA against eligibility cut-offs, the branch and graduation year, the programming languages you know, and whether your projects are your own work rather than copied tutorials. Internships, hackathons and a steady coding profile add weight. Clear, honest descriptions of what you built matter more than a long list of technologies.

The sample below is for a final-year computer science student targeting software developer roles at product companies and IT services firms.

Experience

Software Development Intern

Initech Solutions · Noida (remote)

  • Built 6 REST endpoints in Spring Boot for an internal inventory tool, with input validation and JUnit tests reviewed by the senior team.
  • Wrote a Python script to clean and import 25,000 legacy product records into PostgreSQL, saving the operations team several days of manual entry.

Web Development Intern

Example Tutors (college incubator startup) · Lucknow

  • Integrated a form backend and email confirmation, collecting 300+ sign-ups during the pilot.

Class X (CBSE)

Example Public School · Lucknow · 91%

  • Finalist, college round of a national-level hackathon, 2025

Positions of responsibility

  • Technical lead, college coding club (2024–25): ran weekly DSA sessions for 60+ juniors

What makes this resume work

  • Education comes with CGPA and the expected graduation year, which recruiters check first for eligibility.
  • Internships are written like job experience, with what was built and a result, even though they were short.
  • Projects are original, explained in one or two lines each, and show different skills: full stack, algorithms and data.
  • Coding practice is quantified (problems solved, contest rating) instead of claiming to be "good at DSA".
  • Core CS subjects are listed because campus interviews often test them directly.
  • The whole resume fits one page with no objective statement, photo or personal details.

B.Tech Fresher resume mistakes to avoid

  • Starting with a generic career objective such as "to work in a reputed organisation". Use a short, specific summary instead.
  • Listing tutorial or copied projects. Reviewers recognise common clones; build something with your own idea or twist.
  • Adding every language from coursework. List only what you can code in during an interview.
  • Including a photo, date of birth, father's name, hobbies and a declaration at the bottom. These are not needed today.
  • Stretching the resume to two pages. A fresher resume should be one tight page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best resume format for B.Tech freshers?

Use a one-page, single-column layout in this order: contact details and links, a two-line summary, education, internships, projects, skills and achievements. Put CGPA and graduation year clearly under education, and include Class X and XII marks because many campus drives check them. Save as PDF with a clear file name, such as your name followed by "Resume".

Should freshers mention 10th and 12th marks on their resume?

Yes, for most Indian campus and off-campus drives. Many companies have eligibility criteria such as a minimum percentage in Class X, Class XII and graduation, and recruiters check these quickly. List the board, year and percentage or CGPA in the education section. Once you have a few years of work experience, you can remove school marks.

How many projects should a fresher put on a resume?

Two to four projects is usually enough. Pick ones you built yourself, that work, and that show different skills, such as a full-stack app, an algorithm-heavy tool or a data project. For each, list the tech stack and one or two lines on what it does and what you handled. Link the GitHub repository and a live demo if there is one.

My CGPA is below 7. What should I do?

Keep it on the resume, because hiding it often leads to rejection when companies verify eligibility. Then strengthen everything else: internships, projects with real users, coding contest ratings, open-source contributions and certifications. Apply widely through off-campus drives, startups and referrals, where projects and skills often matter more than cut-offs. If your recent semesters improved, you can mention that briefly.

Should a fresher resume include a career objective?

A generic objective adds little. Replace it with a two-line summary that states your degree, graduation year, key skills and the role you are targeting, for example a final-year CSE student with Java and React experience looking for a software developer role. Tailor that line for each application, especially when the company and role differ.
